BOOK 1 OF THE TRILOGY

Some trips are longer and stranger than others.

So far, 1997 has been a spectacularly bad year for reporter Meg Jennings -- and it's only March. Uncontrollable, debilitating visions have forced her to give up driving and take a leave of absence from her job. When her mother demands that she visit without explaining why, Meg sets aside her worries and heads for the small town of Alpine Grove. But her arrival is greeted by an empty house and no sign of Mom.

Help arrives in a cherry-red classic convertible Mustang with Riley O'Shea behind the wheel and his fluffy white dog Zelda riding shotgun. Summoned by his father, Riley is disturbed to find that Dad has disappeared along with Meg's mother. Meeting his possible future step-sister for the first time, he learns that he isn't the only one who has been plagued with sensory anomalies that doctors can't explain.

A cryptic note from Dad sends the threesome on a quest across the southwest US to find a mystery man who may have the answers they need. Navigating through hallucinations, malodorous bakeries, Elvis impersonators, and evil clowns forces Meg and Riley to put aside their differences and confront the secrets and conspiracies behind their parents' disappearance. Along the way, they begin to suspect that having messed up senses might not be as coincidental as they thought.

Note Sensing Trouble is a full-length novel (300 pages/80,000 words) that is Book #1 of Jennings & O'Shea series. The correct reading order is
1. Sensing Trouble
2. Sensing Secrets
3. Sensing Truth

Sensing Trouble A Jennings and O'Shea Novel Book 1 edition by Susan C Daffron Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Disappointing book after all the Alpine Grove books Daffron has written. The characters were interesting but the story was just weird and unbelievable. It was about a search for why a boy and girl have weird sensory distortions, eating disorders, hallucinations, bad smells. Plus I read the entire book but there was no ending. Must buy next book in series to get any kind of closure and I think there are 2 more books. Daffron needs to return to the original Alpine Grove series which I love.

I LOVED this book, and only 4 stars instead of 5 because I cannot get volume 2 on ... what a disappointment! Now I've bought part 3, but I will miss everything that's been happening in part 2, and that makes me sad
Love the book!!! Can't wait for the next one. I love reading a mystery with a dog in the mix. The story took a lot of twists and turns and keep you reading till the end.
The characters are interesting, the lovely dog routinely 'upstages' the humans, and the plot is both plausible - although not necessarily probable, and is intriguing If you enjoyed Scully and Mulder in the X-Files, I think you will find this similar in that the plot, which I say is plausible, is also somewhat far-fetched, and requires the reader to think 'what if this hypothesis is true?' and to suspend disbelief for full enjoyment, in my opinion. The bottom line is, I loved it so much I immediately bought and read book 2 and book 3 of the trilogy.
Love reading this book, left me wanting more. It was a hard book to put down. I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was happening to everyone. Why they were taking people, why Dean was drugged. What happened to the parents.
I so enjoy Daffron's Alpine Grove series and looked forward to this new one. I was not disappointed. Riley, Meg, and Zelda are delightful and I look forward to to their future exploits.
An interesting premise for a story. I enjoyed Susan Daffron's Alpine Grove stories so I was anxious to give her new series a try. Two misfits who have developed strange senses meet up while searching for missing family members. They go on a journey to solve the missing persons mystery while trying to understand why they are having strange health problems. The end leaves you hanging and picks up the story again in Book Two. Worth the read if you enjoy quirky characters and a mystery. A light read. Perfect for unwinding. And since it's a Daffron book, you know there is a great dog character.
This was the first book I read by Susan C. Daffron. I saw the book on BookBub and thought the story was interesting. I did enjoy the book and I really liked Meg's character. I bought the second and third book before finishing the first book. Meg and Riley build a good friendship over the course of the first book. Although the two of them spend many nights together in Motel 6 there is never anything sexual between the two. I really liked that the author wrote the two characters this way. It was refreshing. In this book, both characters are building a solid friendship together and near the end each of them start to notice the other one as more than friends.
